In the Curriuclum for Excellence structure the BGE starts in nursery at Early Level. In Primary School children move through levels Early, First and Second. By the time most learners arrive at Secondary they are ready to move onto Level 3. Our courses reflect the age/stage for most learners, with modifications for those learners who need their curriculum adapted.

S1 – Business Information Technology: Digital literacy skills in Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel, Access, Power-point and Outlook are developed. Learners come to the department one period per week. Learners are assessed at Levels 3 and 4 in line with the Education Scotland Technologies benchmarks.

S2 – Business Information Technology: Digital literacy skills continue to be developed along with an introduction to Social Studies experiences in Business in Action. Learners complete 3 units and are assessed at Levels 3 and 4 in line with the Education Scotland Technologies and Social Studies benchmarks.

S3 – Learners specialise into discreet Technologies and Social Studies courses in Administration and Business to enable them to develop the necessary skills to progress into NQ courses in S4. In S3 the following skills are developed:

Administration & IT – learners will continue to develop their knowledge and skills in Technologies and will be assessed in line with Education Scotland’s Technologies benchmarks. The focus in the course is to further develop skills in the key industry standard software applications; word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation and organisation/communications software. At the end of S3 learners will complete an Integrated IT Assessment at Level 4 (or Level 2/3 as appropriate) to prepare them for progression into the senior phase course in S4.

Business Management – learners will continue to develop their knowledge and skills in Social Studies and will be assessed in line with Education Scotland’s Social Studies (Business) benchmarks. The focus in the course is to examine the key functional areas of a business; People, Finance, Marketing and Operations. At the end of S3 learners will complete an Integrated written assessment at Level 4 (or Level 2/3 as appropriate) to prepare them for progression into the senior phase course in S4.
